Emerging Sports

Beach Volleyball, led by Coach Thrasher, is set to be the first Division III program in the American Southwest Conference (ASC). Thrasher noted the sport’s rapid growth and autonomy in running the program. Facility plans are being finalized, with a minimum of three courts planned, possibly near the trailhead for community use.

Women’s Flag Football, coached by Kerrville native Colby McCoy, will operate as a club sport this year with an official ASC start expected next year. McCoy, a Tivy High School graduate, said the program has already seen success, winning a showcase tournament against Concordia University. The sport is noted for its low barrier to entry regarding equipment, primarily requiring gloves and mouthpieces.

Football Momentum

Michael Bennett provided an update on the highly anticipated 2026 football season. He noted the team, built by Coach Keith Allen, had an “incredible” 5-1 development year and is continuing to bring in high-level recruits. Season tickets went on sale the day of the broadcast, and the university is encouraging greater Kerrville community participation to fill the stadium for the first game.

Other Episode Highlights

The episode also began with an observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, featuring audio from King’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech. Investigative journalism was also a topic, with the host discussing a Texas Observer article detailing how members of the neo-Nazi organization Patriot Front performed disaster relief work in Kerr County following the July 4 flood to “launder the group’s image.” A brief discussion on NFL playoff games concluded the episode.
