Ingram snapped by Sonora in 36-12 district loss

Sonora rolled in the second half with 30 unanswered points.

Ingram Tom Moore had its chances on Friday night against visiting Sonora in the district opener for both teams, but the host Warriors were overwhelmed by their own mistakes in a 36-12 loss.

After taking a 12-6 lead with 5:47 left in the third quarter, Ingram watched Sonora roll to 30 unanswered points in the final 17 minutes of the game. This wasn't what you'd call clean football. Some of the takeaways:

  • The two teams combined for seven turnovers; Sonora had five of those.
  • Ingram struggled with snaps, leaving quarterback Aiden Rendon with a night that saw him scrambling backward — a lot. Rendon finished the night with negative-45 yards rushing.
  • Ingram had a touchdown called back on a holding call, and another potential touchdown was stopped at the 1-yard line on a fourth and a very long goal to go.
  • The snap struggles spoiled Rendon's big passing night. The freshman quarterback was 12-of-24 passing with 270 yards and two touchdowns. Rendon's big moment was a 65-yard scoring strike to junior running back Ashton Cross.
  • While passing was working for the Warriors, Sonora held Ingram's running attack to 8 yards.

With the loss, Ingram is now 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in the district. The Warriors host Bangs next week for homecoming.

Freshman quarterback Aiden Rendon made some big plays for the Warriors against Sonora. He finished the game with 270 passing yards with two touchdowns.

Ingram forced Sonora into five turnovers, including three fumbles, but the Warriors struggled to capitalize on those mistakes.

Ashton Cross took a bubble pass from quarterback Aiden Rendon and raced 65 yards for a third quarter touchdown that gave the Warriors a 12-6 lead.
