Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor both earned spots in the 2026 D3football.com Preseason Top 25 poll, released July 20 — meaning two of Schreiner’s American Southwest Conference opponents entered the season nationally ranked before a single snap was played.
Hardin-Simmons checked in at No. 15 with 247 points after posting a 9-2 record in 2025 and a share of the ASC championship. Under head coach Jesse Burleson, the Cowboys open 2026 at home against Chapman University, which finished last season 9-3. Hardin-Simmons beat Chapman 37-30 in Orange, California, during the 2025 season.
Mary Hardin-Baylor landed at No. 21 under head coach Larry Harmon after finishing 7-3 in 2025 and also sharing the ASC title. The Cru open their season at Rowan University.
Schreiner is scheduled to face both ranked programs during conference play, traveling to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Oct. 31 and to Hardin-Simmons on Nov. 7.
The season marks Schreiner’s first as an ASC member and its first playing NCAA Division III football. The Mountaineers open at home against Austin College on Sept. 5.
