Schreiner women's soccer finishes weekend with ties

The Mountaineers finish tied with visiting St. Thomas and Centenary.

The Schreiner University women's soccer team has put in plenty of extra work on the pitch, only to end up with ties.

On Sunday, the Mountaineers battled back from a 1-0 halftime deficit against visiting Centenary to tie the match 1-1 in the 71st minute on a shot by defender Caroline Quiroga. It was Quiroga's first goal of the season.

Schreiner's Caroline Quiroga was close to delivering a goal in the first half against Centenary, but was denied. She would not be denied in the second half.

However, the two teams battled for an additional scoreless 40 minutes, with the match ending. Schreiner goalie Audrey Rivera stopped five shots on goal.

The Mountainers are 0-0-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and 0-8-2 overall. Schreiner finished in a 1-1 tie on Friday against visiting St. Thomas. In that match, Schreiner's lone goal came from midfielder Matiana Cancino.

Schreiner is on the road this week with matches at Southwestern in Georgetown on Friday and at Texas Lutheran in Seguin on Sunday.
