KISD sets contingency plans for Tivy graduation as flood watch looms over the weekend
Kerrville ISD is monitoring the weather closely ahead of Friday night’s Tivy High School graduation ceremony, releasing contingency plans Thursday as a Flood Watch takes effect for Kerr County from Friday evening through Monday.
The Tivy High School Class of 2026 graduation is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Antler Stadium, with gates opening at 6 p.m. The district said it will delay the ceremony rather than move it indoors, noting that an indoor venue would significantly limit attendance for the 293 graduating seniors and their families.
If weather forces a delay, KISD’s protocol allows the ceremony to be pushed back until 10 p.m. Friday. If conditions remain unsafe, the alternate date is Saturday, May 23, at 9 a.m., with gates opening at 7 a.m.
Friday’s forecast offers some reason for optimism — it’s the driest day of the week, with only a 20% chance of storms after 1 p.m. and partly sunny skies pushing toward a high of 84. However, storm chances climb to 40% Friday night, and Saturday carries an 80% chance of precipitation as a major weather system moves through the region.
The situation is simpler for area schools with indoor venues. Center Point High School would move its graduation ceremony to its gymnasium if needed. Ingram’s ceremony is already scheduled indoors at Schreiner University’s Event Center.
KISD said it will communicate updates through its website and official social media platforms. Families are encouraged to monitor forecasts and district channels as Friday approaches.
