New home, new vibe and a new offering for downtown pub and dog park

The new Tailchasers location has opened in the former site of La Escondida Bar, situated between Clay and Quinland streets. This venue offers a complete dining menu, a wide selection of mixed drinks, and a spacious backyard where patrons can let their dogs run freely.

Tara Leganza and her sister, Lacie Fields, never planned to be restaurateurs, barkeepers, or deeply invested entrepreneurs, but that’s where they find themselves. The sister act is moving its West Kerrville Tailchasers Pub and Dog Park to a location on Jefferson, and they are celebrating their soft opening today.

“This new location offers us the proximity to downtown and the walk capability in the Arts and Culture District and allows us to have food and a full bar and maintain our backyard area for entertainment and for the pups and their owners to hang out and just enjoy the afternoons,” Leganza said

The former location was on Junction Highway in the Blue Oak Trading Company, but the opportunity to relocate was enticing. The new spot provides greater flexibility, but the remodel has been tough.

“The biggest challenge, I would say, is the unknown of an old building,” Leganza said of refitting the old shop space, which has had many iterations in its history. However, when you walk into the revamped Tailchasers you’ll find new lighting, new seating and a new kitchen.

“We have flatbread sandwiches, salads, stuff for the kids, and even a pup bowl, which is chicken and rice,” Legenza said. “That’ll be cooled to a good temp for your pub and the rice. We made sure it is safe rice and chicken. There’s no seasoning, so everyone is happy. We even have some gluten-free cauliflower flatbread options.”

While today is the soft opening, Leganza said the official grand opening is June 14.
