Nearly 100 ways to get out this week in Kerr County

The Lead counted roughly 94 listed happenings across the seven days, and that’s before factoring in the events that pop up last-minute on Facebook.

Between Monday and Sunday, Kerr County residents have close to 100 chances to get out of the house — from sunrise nature walks and library craft sessions to winery concerts, trivia nights and a full rodeo weekend. The Lead counted roughly 94 listed happenings across the seven days, and that’s before factoring in the events that pop up last-minute on Facebook.

Here’s a look at what’s filling the calendar.

Live music almost every night

Musicians are booked somewhere in town practically every evening this week. The Inn Pub, Gravity Check Saloon, Howdy’s Bar & Chill, Central Provisions and the wineries along Highway 27 all have acts on the schedule, with Heartbreak Outlaws playing two different venues — The Inn Pub on Tuesday and Elm Waterhole Saloon at the YO Hotel on Friday. Winery-goers can catch Turtle Creek Vineyard’s Monday Mingle with Matthew James Butler, then come back Thursday for the Babylonstoren Wine Experience. Singing Water Vineyards has back-to-back sets Saturday and Sunday.

The library is doing the most

Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library’s summer programming is in full swing, with something on the calendar nearly every day: story time, a “Lilo & Stitch” scavenger hunt, a Lego club split into two sessions, a mystery fiction book club discussing “Don’t Let Him In,” a naturalist book club tackling “Wanted! Mountain Cedars: Dead & Alive,” and even a resilience-building workshop for adults led by a licensed clinical social worker. Saturday brings an all-day Family Game Day plus adult yoga and a nature journaling craft.

Science and the outdoors

Riverside Nature Center anchors much of the week’s nature programming, starting Monday with a free UGRA presentation on the flood warning system and RiverHub, continuing with Wednesday’s Wildflower Bunch, Thursday’s toddler-focused Sprouts story time, Friday’s live Facebook Q&A with a Schreiner University professor, and Saturday’s bird walk and evening Moth Night. The Kerrville Walking Group meets Saturday morning for its usual 2- to 4-mile route, and the Hill Country Archeological Association hears a presentation on the Nighthawk Bison Jump at Caprock Canyons.

Markets, kids and the rodeo

Saturday is the week’s busiest day by far, with close to 25 events. Two farmers markets — Hill Country Heritage and Heart of the Hills — run simultaneously that morning, KidFest takes over The Arcadia Live Theater, and The Ridge Marketplace throws a party celebrating its 15th year. The night wraps up with Crider’s Rodeo and Dance, gates open at 6:30 p.m., rodeo at 8.

Games, trivia and a paint night

Trivia hunters have four separate nights to choose from: Tuesday at True Texas BBQ, Thursday’s T4 Third Thirsty Thursday at The Arcadia Live (with Pint & Plow pizza waiting for teams that RSVP), and a second Thursday trivia at Central Provisions. Cornhole runs Wednesday and Friday mornings at the Dietert Center, and The Color of Clay hosts a Christmas-in-July paint and sip Friday night.

Outreach and support groups keep going

Amid all the entertainment, the county’s support network stays on schedule: the Mustard Seed Food Pantry Monday morning, a grief support group and Peterson Health’s pelvic floor health talk at the Dietert Center, the Hill Country Veterans Center’s food bank Wednesday afternoon, and the monthly San Antonio Food Bank distribution at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday.
