A 75-year-old Kerrville woman was taken into custody early Saturday morning after an hours-long armed standoff that followed a domestic assault, according to the Kerrville Police Department.
Jenny Sprott was arrested shortly after midnight following a standoff that began when KPD officers responded at 11:29 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 1600 block of Quinlan Creek Road on a report of a domestic disturbance involving violence.
The victim, who called dispatchers from the scene, told police Sprott was armed with a rifle and had threatened to shoot herself and any law enforcement officers who responded.
When officers arrived, they found Sprott and the victim outside the residence. Sprott, who was carrying a rifle, threatened to shoot officers and herself and shouted at officers to shoot her. Officers took cover and attempted to persuade Sprott to drop the weapon. She refused.
Officers were able to remove the victim from the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. Sprott then retreated into the residence, periodically reappearing at the door to repeat her threats.
The Hill Country SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. Negotiators were unable to establish communication with Sprott, and the threats continued. Officers developed a tactical plan and deployed a distraction device when Sprott came into the yard. She dropped the rifle and attempted to retreat into the residence, but officers reached her and placed her under arrest before she made it back inside.
Sprott was evaluated at Peterson Regional Medical Center before being released to KPD officers and booked into the Kerr County Jail. She faces charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, aggravated assault of a family or household member with a weapon causing serious bodily injury, and aggravated assault against a public servant. Bond had not been set as of the time of this report.
