Peterson Health Foundation postpones gala, launches employee assistance fund after flood hits 50 caregivers

In response, the foundation quickly established an Employee Assistance Fund, allowing community members and employees to make direct financial contributions to support hospital workers rebuilding their lives.

The Peterson Health Foundation’s major annual gala — scheduled for Sept. 19 at the AGM Barn — has been postponed to September 2027 out of sensitivity to the community’s flood recovery.

Foundation team members Danielle Jenschke and Jessica Belschner appeared Monday on Lead Live with news of the postponement and an update on the organization’s most urgent current work: supporting the approximately 50 Peterson Health caregivers whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the July flood.

In response, the foundation quickly established an Employee Assistance Fund, allowing community members and employees to make direct financial contributions to support hospital workers rebuilding their lives.

The foundation’s primary capital campaign remains the multi-million dollar upgrade of the hospital’s cardiovascular catheterization laboratory. Jenschke described observing a clinical procedure in which a coronary blockage was cleared in real time using a balloon catheter.

“One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how blessed we are in this community to have that hospital,” Belschner said. “Rockstar cath lab and those kinds of things right at our fingertips.”

The foundation also underwrites the Peterson Hospice program, which receives significant tribute donations from the community. Donors can designate gifts to hospice, nursing education, or general hospital needs through the online portal. The foundation is ramping up its Giving Tuesday campaign under the theme “Care Close to Home” for the first Tuesday in December.

The foundation also welcomed Holly Cloud as its new Development Stewardship Officer. The team is located on the first floor of Peterson Health.
