Wilburn Elwood “Corky” Durst: March 29, 1945-June 26, 2026

He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and his deer lease was one of his favorite places to spend time. He was also actively involved in 4‑H, particularly the swine project, where he shared his knowledge and passion with others.

Wilburn Elwood Louis “Corky” Durst, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on June 26, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loved ones.

Corky was born on March 29, 1945, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Esther Kott and Wilburn Elwood Durst. Tragically, his father, Wilburn, passed away during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge before Corky was born.

When Corky was four years old, his mother married Eugene Kolmeier, who became a devoted and loving stepfather and played an important role in his life. On April 16, 1966, Corky married the love of his life, Jacquelyn Crow, at Zion Lutheran Church in Helotes, Texas. Together they built a life centered on family and love, later welcoming their daughter, Stacy Michelle, on March 22, 1974.

Corky dedicated 46 years of service to Southwest Research Institute before retiring. He was known for his warm spirit, never meeting a stranger and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and his deer lease was one of his favorite places to spend time. He was also actively involved in 4‑H, particularly the swine project, where he shared his knowledge and passion with others. One of his greatest joys was making deer jerky for his grandchildren, who eagerly looked forward to it.

Corky is survived by his beloved wife, Jacquelyn; his daughter, Stacy and her husband, Jason Skow; and his cherished grandchildren, Chase and Haylee. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Chuck) Votion; his brother, Ed (Janet) Kolmeier; nieces Kim (Matt) Louis and Nicole (Josh) LeJeune; and his great‑nieces and nephews, Christian, Carson, Ella, and Katie.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Kolmeier; his stepfather, Eugene Kolmeier; his father, Wilburn Durst; his niece, Kristy Galik; and his grandparents, Ben and Laura Durst and Louis and Meta Kott.

Visitation will be held on July 9th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Kerrville Funeral Home 1221 Junction Highway Kerrville, TX 78028.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Der Stadt Friedhof Cemetery 300 N. Lee St. Fredericksburg, TX 78624.

Pallbearers will be Jason Skow, Chuck Votion, Matt Louis, Carson Friesenhahn, Randy Boldt, and Travis McCubbin. Honorary Pallbearers are Chase Skow and Josh LeJeune.

Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Kerrville Funeral Home.
