Nonprofit Week 2025: The Pregnancy Resource Center

Executive Director JJ Johnson and President Lainie Johnson discussed the center’s mission to help families choose life for their children and become good parents.

The center offers free pregnancy information, pregnancy tests, sonograms and STD testing. A core focus involves parenting education, with 370 different classes available. Clients earn “baby bucks,” each worth $20, to “buy” new baby items from the on-site boutique.

In response to the flood, the center pivoted to distribute over $30,000 worth of diapers, formula and car seats to any affected family, recognizing the tragedy’s broad impact.

Founded in 1984 as the Kerr County Christian Action Council, the organization has evolved from a maternity home to its current comprehensive support model. The center operates on a $1.2 million budget, with 70 percent of revenue from individuals and the rest from grants and an annual fundraising banquet.

The center’s future goals include filling staff openings and reaching more people with expanded services, potentially adding an on-staff counselor to address generational traumas.
