One of the week’s most anticipated moments comes Saturday morning in Hunt, where a ribbon cutting and open house at the new Hunt Community Center is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Preservation Park. The event marks a milestone for the small Hill Country community as it continues to rebuild and look ahead.

Schreiner graduates take the stage

Friday evening, Schreiner University will hold its 2026 commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. on campus, sending another class of Mountaineers into the world. The ceremony doubles as one of Kerrville’s signature annual civic moments.

Hope for the Guadalupe comes to The Arcadia

On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., The Arcadia Live hosts a screening of “Hope for the Guadalupe,” a Fin and Fur Films production directed by Ben Masters. The film chronicles loss, resilience and restoration along one of the Hill Country’s most beloved rivers — a story that resonates deeply in this community. The river theme continues Sunday, when Texas music legend Gary P. Nunn headlines the Plant the Guadalupe Benefit Concert at Crider’s Rodeo and Dancehall beginning at noon. The event is organized by the San Antonio Bay Gateway, with details at sabgtx.org.

Police Week honored downtown

Tuesday at 10 a.m., the Kerrville Police Department will host a National Police Week Memorial Service at Guardian Plaza. The service is free and open to the public.

Music Garden opens at Riverside Nature Center

Also Tuesday, Riverside Nature Center will mark the opening of its new Music Garden with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. — a family-friendly addition to one of Kerrville’s most-used green spaces.

Mental health awareness takes center stage Thursday

The Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities center hosts its Mental Health Awareness Breakfast Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Doyle Community Center. Details are at doylecc.org.

Sense and Sensibility on stage

Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” runs at the VK Garage Theater Friday through Sunday, presented by the Cailloux Performing Arts organization. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at caillouxperformingarts.com.

Lone Star Dance fills the Cailloux

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
