SPORTS UPDATE: Schreiner soccer teams fall to 0-3

Volleyball team is 1-3; Tivy suffers loss at Fredericksburg on the football field.

Schreiner's men's and women's soccer teams fell to 0-3 on the season, with losses Sunday against visiting Sul Ross State in non-conference play.

The women's team lost 1-nil against Sul Ross. Schreiner midfielder Charlie Rand had two of the Mountaineers three shots on goal.

The Mountaineers gave up a goal from Sul Ross defender Nuvia Guillen just before halftime — in the 4th minute.

The women lost their season opener to Our Lady of the Lake on Sept. 1, and then lost a 6-2 match to Huston-Tillotson on Sept. 3. Rand scored in the Tillotson match, while defender Bonnie Evans scored as well. In the season opener, forward Taylor Merritt scored in the 15th minute in the first half to even the match, but Our Lady of the Lake wasn't relentless.

The men's team has been shut out twice in three matches.

Both teams return to action on Sept. 10 by playing host McMurry.

SCHREINER VOLLEYBALL

After opening their season at Sherman, the women's volleyball program is off to a 1-3 start. The Mountaineers swept McMurry on Sept. 3, and lost a five-set match to Sul Ross State.

In those three matches, the Mountaineers got 55 kills from junior Brooke Byer, and 46 kills from junior Kayla Lofland. Sophomore setter Mia Moreno had 107 setting assists.

PREP FOOTBALL

Tivy fell to 0-2 on the 2021 season with a 44-27 loss to rival Fredericksburg. The Antlers gave up 530 yards of total offense against the Billies.

The Antlers have lost four consecutive games dating back to last season, and the schedule doesn't get any easier.

Comfort took the full brunt of the Mason Punchers on Sept. 3 with a 39-6 loss. Comfort is now 1-1. Center Point fell 49-14 on Sept. 3 to visiting TMI-Episcopal. Harper moved to 2-0 with a 55-8 rout of Sabinal. Ingram Tom More fell to 0-2 after a 55-0 loss at Johnson City. Our Lady of the Hills earned its first win of the season with a 66-31 win over visiting Brooks Collegiate Academy.
