Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Calvary Temple Church, with Pastor Del Way and Dr. Joe Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery on Highway 16.

The funeral procession will depart from Grimes Funeral Chapel on Jefferson Street at 8 a.m., with motorcycle riders asked to arrive by 7:30 a.m. to prepare. The procession will travel along Sidney Baker Street to Loop 534 before proceeding to the church.

“The whole family has a special place in our heart,” said Mike Pieraccini, who is helping organize the event with his wife Jan alongside Jeremy from the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. “We felt that it was our honor to do this.”

The Cortez family was known for their love of motorcycles, which brought them together as a family. Cody Ryan Cortez was an Army veteran, and the surviving son, Dan Cortez, is a National Guardsman.

Community members unable to participate in the procession are encouraged to line Sidney Baker Street to show support.

“Anything to give comfort to the family and to let this wonderful community express their love and concern for the family would be great,” Pieraccini said.

Following the church service, a second procession will escort the family to the cemetery. Additional riders are welcome to join this procession, with participants asked to arrive at the church around 10 a.m.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
