With some scenes shot at Kerrville’s Inn of the Hills in 2021, the limited series tells the story of Montgomery’s life in North Texas in the late 1970s, leading to the killing of Betty Gore on June 13, 1980. Montgomery said it was self-defense and was acquitted of murder charges during a trial in October of 1980.

The story is set in Wylie, located in Collin County, north of Dallas, and how she had an affair with her neighbor — Allan Gore. Betty Gore was bludgeoned 41 times with an axe.

This is the third television telling of the story, including a 1990 TV movie. Another streaming series, this one on Hulu, starred Jessica Biel as Candy Montgomery.
