The Kerrville Police Department issued 98 citations and 135 warnings and made five arrests during Operation Slowdown, a traffic safety enforcement effort that ran from July 18 to Aug. 2.
Officers stopped 208 vehicles during the roughly two-week initiative, which was funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and targeted speeding and unsafe driving, the department said.
Speeding drove most of the enforcement, accounting for 50 citations and 69 warnings. Officers logged 28 citations and 37 warnings for other violations, 12 citations and two warnings for distracted driving, and six citations and four warnings for seat belt violations. They also recorded 16 warnings and one citation for hazardous moving violations, seven warnings and one citation for intersection violations.
The five arrests included two for driving while intoxicated, one for possession of marijuana, one for public intoxication and one for driving while license invalid, enhanced.
The department thanked drivers who slowed down during the campaign, part of the statewide TxDOT push to reduce crashes on Texas roads.
Those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
