March brings full calendar of arts, music, community events to Kerr County

The week’s most prominent community gathering may be Thursday’s Soup’s On! dinner at Dietert Center, a soup supper and silent auction benefiting Meals on Wheels. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets and online auction bidding are available at dietertcenter.org.

March hits the ground running in Kerr County, with a week packed with live music, community fundraisers, performing arts, outdoor activities and more spanning March 2-8.

Schreiner University’s theater company, Flag is Up, presents “Little Women” at Hanszen Theater with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at schreiner.universitytickets.com.

The arts community also steps into the spotlight Wednesday evening when Schreiner hosts Carla Fikes for the Summerlin Visiting Artist Series Talk at the CCAC at 5:30 p.m. Fikes and her band then headline the Summerlin Music Series at Trailhead Beer Garden Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The Museum of Western Art hosts its Wild West Wine Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, featuring tastings from Bending Branch Winery and a presentation on current museum programming. The event is free. On Friday evening, Bending Branch hosts a Quarterly Reading with Vermont-based authors James Crews and Brad Peacock beginning at 6 p.m. High’s Cafe boxed meals can be ordered in advance.

The Arcadia Live presents two notable events: a Wednesday screening of “The Breakfast Club” at 7 p.m. as part of its Iconic Film Series, and a Saturday centennial celebration — Prohibition to Present — beginning at 6 p.m.

Saturday shapes up as the week’s busiest day. Two farmers markets run simultaneously from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — the Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market at 301 Junction Highway and the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market at 741 Water St. Arreola Ranch in Center Point hosts the March Market Days & Green Thumb Gathering from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, free and open to the public.

Also Saturday, Carver Park hosts the Big Texas Recovery Rally from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Hill Country Chorale presents a Classical Music Fest at First Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m.

The Hill Country Art Foundation’s “Hill Country Strong” exhibit — with proceeds going to flood recovery — continues through April 2 at HCAF, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The SAKC Hill Country Dog Cluster Show runs March 4-8 at the Hill Country Youth Events Center.

Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library anchors the week with a full slate of programming, including Tuesday’s Great Decisions Discussion Group at noon, which will examine Trump’s tariffs in historical perspective. The library also kicks off Pi Week activities Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in advance of Pi Day on March 14.

Live music spans the county all week, with notable Friday night shows including Alora Joy at Pint & Plow Brewing Co. and James Keith & The Q-Tips at Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree. Saturday highlights include Jake the Moondog with The Maplewood Brothers at Lazy Days (doors at 6 p.m., music at 8 p.m.) and Rock Bottom String Band at Central Provisions at 7 p.m.
