Blistering 3rd quarter powers Tivy past Smithson Valley

A 3-point barrage in the third quarter helps the Tivy High School boys’ basketball team to a third consecutive victory.

Tivy High School’s boys’ basketball team blitzed visiting Smithson Valley with three consecutive 3-point shots to start the third quarter to help the Antlers secure a 57-42 district victory.

The Antlers already held a 26-17 halftime lead when Jaden Frausto and Mason Carlile dropped threes on Smithson Valley in the first two minutes of the third quarter. Frausto hit two, while Carlile hit one of his three 3-pointers in the run. The 9-0 burst forced Smithson Valley to call a timeout with six minutes left in the quarter, trailing 35-19.

Tivy continues to move up in the district standings, one game behind Boerne Champion, Wagner and Veterans Memorial. The Antlers have won three consecutive games and now face a two-game road trip before a pivotal Jan. 27 matchup against Champion.

On Tuesday night, Jackson Johnston scored 17 points, and Carlile added 13 points.
