Charles Patrick Smith: Jan. 5, 1944-Aug. 23, 2026

Charles Patrick Smith (“Chuck” or “Pat” to his friends and family) passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 82, with his family present.  

He was born on January 5, 1944, in Rochester, New York, where he grew up the only child of Michael and Betty Smith (née Boulio). After graduating high school at Miami Military Academy, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, later becoming an officer after acceptance into the Airmen Education Program, graduating from Florida State University.

He served his country for 22 years as an investigator with the Office of Special Investigations, Defense Investigative Service Commander, and a Flight Commander at Officer Training School.  His duty stations included Arkansas, Labrador, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alaska, and San Antonio, TX.

After receiving a medical discharge from the USAF, Chuck pursued a paralegal degree and worked briefly in the private sector before joining the Civil Service as an Intelligence Analyst at Electronic Security Command in San Antonio.

After retirement, he moved to Kerrville with his wife, Linda, in 2004.

He was a Master Mason, a Shriner, a Master Naturalist, an avid reader, and a crossword puzzle enthusiast. Deeply committed to his community, he volunteered for many years as a water sample collector for UGRA, at the Nature Center caring for bird feeders, as well as at the local VA Hospital Museum and charter member of AMVETS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Betty Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Helen Smith; his daughter Betty Lucille Moon and son-in-law Gerry Moon; his son Michael Patrick Smith and daughter-in-law Laura Smith; his son Michael Edward Wurth; his daughter Audra Lynn Arr and son-in-law Anthony Arr; eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Chuck’s name to any of the following:  Unitarian Universalist Church of the Hill Country, Hill Country Veterans Center, or the Riverside Nature Center.
