Cluck, Cluck a coffee shop coming to Kerrville; as is the Colonel

New stuff is coming to Kerrville, and no, it’s not a chicken place — but speculation is running high. However, for coffee and pet lovers, there are two new businesses to serve those needs, while a new hotel could break ground in March. 

In state regulatory filings, a Nebraska-based drive-thru coffee shop named Scooter’s could break ground at the southwest corner of Sidney Baker and Jefferson streets. The physical address is 625 Jefferson St. 

The San Antonio Express-News reported the story Wednesday, drawing from a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. 

The state agency ensures that new commercial construction, including renovations, meets regulatory requirements — most notably the Americans With Disabilities Act. Each builder must work with a Registered Accessibility Specialist to meet the ADA requirements. 

A Boerne couple owns the franchise, and the chain is moving into the San Antonio market. The chain has 13 stores in the Dallas-Forth Worth area and more planned for Houston. 

Another finding among the filings is that pet supplier Petco will build a store on Junction Highway and Commerce Street. That project was supposed to start in October 2022. 

A long-awaited and stalled Spring Hill Suites submitted plans to the state to break ground on a four-story, 84-room hotel at 933 Water St. The regulatory filing was on Jan. 5, but this project’s start date has been bantered about for the last two years. However, this is the most current filing for a project expected to cost $4.9 million. 

And then, somewhere in the near future, Kerrville will be blessed with yet another chicken franchise, but with a twist. In a KPUB Board of Directors meeting, a plan for a combination Kentucky Fried Chicken-Taco Bell restaurant was revealed — sited for Junction Highway and Harper Road near Moore’s Furniture. Now, some Kerrville folks will remember there once was a “finger-licking good” joint in town previously, and it failed. However, you can never have enough fried chicken, and someone can find richly fried gluten chicken at Raising Canes, Chick-Fil-A, Chili’s, Golden Chick, Popeye’s, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Chicken Express and Church’s — and those are just the chains.
