Dennis Lewis: Nov. 9, 1936-May 13, 2026
He officially retired in 2015 and has spent the last 11 years with his wife, enjoying working on their home, gardens, and his new hobby in stained glass. He loved their property, pets and watching the wildlife off the back deck.
Dennis Morgan Lewis was born November 9, 1936 to Harry & Lillian Lewis in Oklahoma City, Ok and passed away May 13, 2026, in Center Point, TX. Dennis went to Putnam City High School where he was a member of the Flywheelers Club. Every week it was a competition to see who had the fastest car in Oklahoma City (it was Dennis). He met the love of his life in high school and married Sharon Benbrook on April 16, 1956 in Gainesville, Tx. They had two children, Tammy Lynn and Jeffrey Alan. They had been married for 70 years at the time of his death.
Dennis worked at his family’s tile and marble business with his grandfather, dad and uncle, mastering the art of tile setting. He then went on to work for his father-in -law in his furniture refinishing business. He was a natural woodworker and became an expert at antique restoration, a skill he would utilize throughout his life. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard. Dennis went to night school to further his education and he applied with IBM recruiting as they came through Oklahoma City. He was 1 of three people, out of hundreds, to be hired by IBM. Dennis spent most of his years with IBM in Colorado. He became a systems design and development engineer and held 3 patents for Microchips for IBM. Dennis worked on the Saturn V space project at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in 1967. He received a personal letter of thanks from the President of IBM for his contribution to the space program. Dennis retired after 27 years with IBM.
He was a master carpenter, and he and his wife remodeled many houses together. It was a passion they shared. There was no task he set his mind to that he did not master. They moved to the Texas Hill Country in 2005 and Dennis went to work at Lowe’s where he enjoyed sharing his expertise in home remodeling and woodworking. He officially retired in 2015 and has spent the last 11 years with his wife, enjoying working on their home, gardens, and his new hobby in stained glass. He loved their property, pets and watching the wildlife off the back deck.
Dennis was a man of integrity, loyalty, and a true gentleman. Men like him are rare and he will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughter, Tammy, son, Jeff, and wife Sue. Grandchildren Julie and husband, Paul, Andrea, Jordan and husband Nick, and great granddaughters, Kendra, McKenzie, Brisaeus and Mollie, his sister Linda and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Heather, his parents, his brothers, Michael, Harry, and Christopher.
In honor of his wishes, there will be no service.
