Lt. Col. James Harvey Cash III: Aug. 12, 1928-June 1, 2026

Lt. Col. James Harvey Cash III, born August 12, 1928, a devoted husband, father, and distinguished United States Air Force officer, passed away on June 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, faith, and resilience.

James proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career took him across the globe, with assignments throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. Known for his leadership, integrity, and dedication, he exemplified the very best of military service and earned the respect of those who served alongside him.

A man of deep faith, James carried his beliefs with quiet strength and conviction throughout his life. His faith guided his actions, sustained him through challenges, and shaped the compassion and character that endeared him to family and friends alike.

At home, James was a man of enduring love and commitment. He was married to his first wife, Leah Cash, for 58 years—a remarkable partnership built on devotion, shared experiences, and unwavering support. Together, they created a lifetime of cherished memories while navigating the unique journey of military life.

In his later years, James found love once again. At the age of 82, he married Betty Greenshield, bringing companionship, joy, and renewed happiness into his life.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Cash, and his son, James H. Cash IV, who carries forward his father’s legacy of strength, character, service, and faith.

Lt. Col. Cash will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to his country, his deep love for his family, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Kerrville, Texas, on June 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
