More than 100 events fill the Kerr County calendar for June 8-14

A six-day cello festival, a Taylor Swift tribute, two farmers markets and a Saturday-night rodeo anchor a week that runs from sunrise fun runs to late-night dancehalls

Kerr County and the surrounding Hill Country offer more than 100 ways to spend the week of June 8-14, with a calendar that stretches from a sunrise fun run through Louise Hays Park to a six-day classical music festival, a Taylor Swift tribute and a Saturday-night rodeo.

The week’s marquee performing arts run is the Texas Cellos Music Festival, which brings six concerts to Fredericksburg venues from Tuesday through Sunday. The lineup opens Tuesday with “The Future,” a 7 p.m. showcase of cellist Daniel Wang at St. Joseph’s Halle, and continues with programs built around Bach, Schumann, Beethoven and Brahms, an instrument and bow exhibition, and a closing Sunday recital by Valentin Radutiu. Tickets and the full schedule are at texascellos.org.

Closer to home, Hillshapes stages “Made by Humans,” a dance performance, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center. And on Saturday, the Cailloux Theater hosts “A Taylor Swift Experience” at 7:30 p.m.

Live music, seven nights

More than 30 live performances fill stages, saloons and vineyards across the week, peaking Friday and Saturday. Friday’s slate alone runs from Austin Atillo at Turtle Creek Vineyard at 4:30 p.m. to the Q-Tips at the Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree at 8 p.m., with stops at Pint & Plow, Cafe at the Ridge, Truffles & Vines, Howdy’s Bar & Chill and Central Provisions in between.

Saturday is busier still, with roughly a dozen acts including the Corey Weaver Band at Gravity Check Saloon, the Dueling Piano Experience at Singing Water Vineyards and Carlos & Dan and The Silver Bullets at The Inn Pub. The night closes at Crider’s Rodeo and Dancehall, where the rodeo starts at 8 p.m. and a dance with Double Shot follows at 9. Sunday winds down with brunch jams and vineyard sets, from Junior Pruneda at Roddy Tree to Theresa’s Fiddle Jam at Pint & Plow.

Outdoors and community

Saturday morning starts early and outside. The KPD Fun Run, a free family event, steps off at 7 a.m. at Louise Hays Park, followed by the Kerrville Walking Group at 7:30 a.m. Two farmers markets — the Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market on Junction Highway and the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market on Water Street — both run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Hill Country Youth Event Center hosts the Master Spa Show across the weekend, joined Saturday by the Cody Car Show, and River Star Arts Park turns up the volume that afternoon with DJ J-Me’s Summer Bash from 2 to 10 p.m.

Recovery, still on the calendar

Nearly a year after the July 4 flood, recovery remains woven through the week. The Hill Country Alliance’s Native Plant Giveaway offers free plants to landowners along the Guadalupe, with pickups Friday and Saturday at Mosty Brothers Nursery in Center Point. On Wednesday, LiftFund hosts a Lunch & Learn on Kerr County small business recovery at the Cypress Conference Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., walking owners through zero-interest recovery loans.

At the library

The Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library may be the busiest building in town, with more than a dozen programs across the week — story times, Lego clubs, a FIFA World Cup scavenger hunt, two book clubs, a Friends of the Library book sale, an author event with Mary Shearer Eckert and a genealogy workshop on WikiTree. Families can also catch “Ramona & Beezus” at the Arcadia Live on Wednesday or, that same night, the free outdoor screening of “Where’s Willie?” at Trailhead Beer Garden — a 1978 film shot right here in Kerrville.

Arts, crafts and the makers

The Rogue Skein packs the week with workshops, from a Thursday social gathering to Saturday sessions in needle felting and inkle loom weaving. Hill Country Atelier holds its drop-in Life Drawing on Saturday morning, the Color of Clay offers a Friday “Beach Plates” paint and sip, and the Museum of Western Art opens a Cliff Cavin exhibition with a 5:30 p.m. reception Saturday.

Wellness and support

The week also carries a steady thread of care: Veterans Yoga on Monday, grief and stroke support groups midweek, a Veterans Food Bank on Wednesday, Free Pet Food Friday at the Kerrville Pets Alive Safe House and a Saturday gathering honoring women veterans at the Hill Country Veterans Center.
