Schreiner rallies past Hardin-Simmons 2-1 on the road
The Mountaineers overturned an early deficit with second-half goals from Edwin Quijada and Lewis Patterson.
ABILENE, Texas — Schreiner University’s men’s soccer team came from behind to beat Hardin-Simmons 2-1 on Thursday at HSU Soccer Complex, overturning an early deficit with second-half goals from Edwin Quijada and Lewis Patterson.
Hardin-Simmons struck first in the 23rd minute, when Noah Halpin scored off an assist from Gabriel Anderson. Schreiner answered just before halftime, with Quijada leveling the match at 1-1 in the 35th minute. Patterson put Schreiner ahead for good in the 67th minute, and the Mountaineers held on from there.
Hardin-Simmons held a narrow edge in shots, 15-14, but Schreiner’s Mason Miller made six saves to keep the match within reach, while Hardin-Simmons split goalkeeping duties between Joel McPherson and Joaquin Sanchez, each playing a half. No cards were shown on either side — a clean, whistle-light game by this season’s standards.
The win moves Schreiner to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. Hardin-Simmons falls to 2-6-0 (1-1-0 ASC).
