The Kerrville River Roadster Show had something for everyone on Saturday afternoon at Louise Hays Park — music, food, cool cars and a good soaking rain.
Several hundred people turned out to see the cars and pickups that were on display at the park. There was food and music. It was also a time for people to connect their passions of classic cars — many of them vintage muscle machines from the 1950s and 1960s.
Sitting behind their 1941 Chevy van, Linda and Terry Wagner enjoyed the overcast conditions. "I think I hear thunder," Linda said as the summer storm approached.
The couple said they've been involved with classic cars for years, but think Texas has the best the car culture. They're California transplants, moving to Kerrville six years ago. Originally from Covina, a suburb east of downtown Los Angeles, the couple said they can't imagine any place better to live than the Hill Country.
"There's just more of a car culture here in Texas," said Linda, who has known Terry since they were five years old and who have been married for 50 years.
That display of cars in Kerrville ranged from the Wagner's Van, once used as a transport for cadavers, to a Shelby Cobra. There was strangely a Subaru mixed into the show.
However, the rain showers eventually came and people ran for cover, but it certainly didn't douse the enthusiasm for a Saturday afternoon in Kerrville.
