Parents track 58 new COVID-19 cases in Kerrville schools on Monday

Kerrville Independent School District may have 200 cases or more in the first 2 weeks of the school year.

(Editor's Note: The Lead has obtained more emails from parents about last week's cases)

The situation in Kerrville Independent School District continued to deteriorate as COVID-19 cases continued to rise. Parent groups tracking COVID-19 spread through the district said 58 cases were reported on Monday, including 13 at Tivy High School.

The district last updated its COVID-19 dashboard on Wednesday. Parents have repeatedly asked The Lead for anonymity when sharing emails from district principals. Tivy had at least 18 cases between Thursday and Monday, according to emails shared by parents. There were an estimated 90 cases in KISD last week.

In two weeks, at least 215 KISD students and staff have tested positive. It’s unclear if the school district’s positive cases were rolled into the 63 positive cases Peterson Health reported on Monday. In the 2020-2021 school year, KISD had 223 cases. The district could surpass that total this week.

The totals provided by parents only include stats from Tivy, Peterson Middle School, BT Wilson School and the district’s four elementary schools. The numbers don’t include those from Thursday and Friday.

However, Daniels and Tally elementary schools have already surpassed their totals for the entirety of the 2020-2021 school year.

Emails requesting comment from KISD have not been returned.
