From Steinway to saloon stage, Kerr County’s week runs deep

Kerr County’s calendar for Monday through Sunday, Sept. 14-20, stretches from 18th-century chamber music to a Friday night double bill at one of downtown’s newer stages — with farmers markets, gallery shows, a Schreiner football home game and dozens of smaller gatherings filling in the rest of the week.

Camerata opens its season at First Presbyterian

Camerata San Antonio launches its 2026-2027 season Friday at 4 p.m. at Kerrville’s First Presbyterian Church, 800 Jefferson St., with a program built around the ensemble’s yearlong theme, “Beethoven in Context,” marking the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death. The opening concert, “Classical Foundations,” pairs Haydn’s Piano Trio in C Major with Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E-flat Major and Weber’s Grand Quartet in B-flat Major — works from composers who shaped, and were shaped by, the era Beethoven wrote in.

The Kerrville date introduces audiences to pianist Steven Vanhauwaert, a Steinway Artist making his first appearance with the ensemble, alongside Camerata regulars Emily Freudigman on viola, Artistic Director Ken Freudigman on cello and Matthew Zerweck on violin. Tickets are $20; students get in free. The performance repeats Saturday and Sunday in San Antonio, but Friday’s show is the only chance to catch it in Kerr County.

On Deck keeps The Arcadia Live loud

Across town, The Arcadia Live is stacking its own weekend. Thursday brings T4: Third Thirsty Thursday Trivia at 6:30 p.m. — free entry, prizes, a full bar and Pint & Plow pizza available to order ahead for teams of up to six. Friday, the venue’s recurring “On Deck” series takes over: Happy Hour with Jake Martin at 7 p.m., followed by an After Hours set from RANCH\HOUSE: S. Brady Dietert at 9:15 p.m.

Galleries keep several shows running at once

The county’s arts institutions aren’t short on options. Hill Country Arts Foundation’s “Nature’s Bounty,” a gourd art show paired with Master Naturalist work, continues through Oct. 9. The Kerr Arts and Cultural Center is in its final days of an exhibit featuring Robert Behan, Doreen Shann, Aurora Joleen Artistry and the Magnificent Seven Artists, closing Sept. 19. The Museum of Western Art’s “The Enchanted West of Adrienne Stein” runs through Nov. 7, and in Comfort, MixHaus Gallery opens Douglas Galloway’s “Lagniappe” this week. The Heart of the Hills Heritage Center continues its exhibit on Texans’ role in the American Revolution, tied to the country’s 250th anniversary.

Plenty of ways to make art, not just look at it

HCAF’s Drawing Nature with Pen & Ink runs Sept. 17-19, with landscape, clay and stained-glass workshops continuing into October. The Hill Country Atelier’s botanical drawing and composition courses run weekly through November alongside its Saturday life-drawing drop-in. KACC offers Soul Collage on Sept. 19 and a beginner watercolor class the following week.

Libraries, clubs and community groups fill the gaps

Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library packs in story times, a Friends of the Library book sale, three separate book clubs, a movie discussion and a visit from Alamo Workforce Solutions aimed at connecting young adults with job resources. The Kerrville Genealogical Society meets Wednesday to hear a presentation on Tivy Mountain Cemetery, and the Hill Country Archeological Association gathers Saturday for a talk on Fort Martin Scott.

Outreach and wellness round out the week

The Hill Country Veterans Center runs its Veterans Food Bank Wednesday afternoon, and the Dietert Center’s “A Round to Remember” golf tournament Monday benefits its Dementia Care Advocates program. Peterson Health hosts a cardiac support group Wednesday. For anyone looking to slow down, there’s qigong, veterans yoga, gentle yoga and a guided breathwork and sound bath session at The Charmadillo.

Sports and markets keep the weekend busy

Schreiner’s fall sports schedule is in full swing: the men’s soccer team hosts Concordia Friday, and football hosts Southwestern Saturday, preceded by a campus tailgate at Trailhead Beer Garden. Saturday morning brings two farmers markets — Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market and Heart of the Hills Farmers Market — plus the Kerrville Chamber’s Business Expo at the Hill Country Youth Event Center.

And the music doesn’t stop

Beyond Friday’s lineup at The Arcadia Live, the county’s stages stay busy all week, with Turtle Creek Vineyard, Gravity Check Saloon, Central Provisions, Trailhead Beer Garden and Singing Water Vineyards each booking multiple acts between Monday and Sunday.

Whatever the taste — classical, country or somewhere in between — Kerr County’s calendar for the week of Sept. 14 doesn’t leave much room for boredom.
