Schreiner improved to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the ASC. Hardin-Simmons, which had won three straight entering the match, fell to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the ASC.
The third set got away from the Mountaineers early: trailing 12-8, Schreiner lost 13 of the next 17 points as Southwestern built its largest lead of the match and closed it out 25-15.
East Texas Baptist controlled the fifth set from the opening kill, building a 6-1 lead it never relinquished.
Giana Hilliard again paced Schreiner's attack, finishing with nine kills and a team-high 11.5 points, though she hit just .143 on a match-high 35 attempts.
Mackenzie Strban matched Hilliard's kill total with 17 of her own on a .196 clip, finishing with 17.0 points. Jesse Garner added 12 kills, and Lauren Monaco hit .250 with seven kills. Ashlyn Willburn chipped in five kills.
Lauren Monaco was Schreiner's most efficient hitter, going 7 for 14 for a .429 percentage and a team-high 10.5 points.
Mikayla Galvan was Schreiner's most efficient hitter on the night, going 7 for 12 for a .583 percentage and a team-high 8.0 points in two sets of work.
Harlie Gallaspy ran the offense with 21 assists, with Gaby Torres adding 15. Libero Maleyci Soliz led all players with 23 digs.
Schreiner (1-2) enters off a mixed opening week: a season-opening loss at Trinity, followed by a 1-1 showing at the Trinity National Invitational in San Antonio, where the Mountaineers beat Redlands in four sets before being swept by Gustavus Adolphus.
