Schreiner, Concordia (Texas) play to 1-1 draw at Mountaineer Soccer Field

Schreiner University’s men’s soccer team and Concordia (Texas) played to a 1-1 draw Friday at Mountaineer Soccer Field, with each side scoring once and neither able to find a winner over the final half hour.

Cody Smith gave Schreiner an early lead in the 14th minute, finishing off an assist from Ryan Dilworth and Cameron Hoschar. Concordia answered in the 61st minute when Jesse Garfias converted a penalty kick, unassisted, to level the match at 1-1. Neither team found a second goal the rest of the way.

Four yellow cards were shown over the course of the match, with no ejections: Concordia’s Javion Roberts in the 34th minute and Enoch Morebise in the 59th, and Schreiner’s Everett Lowrance in the 86th minute and Lewis Patterson in the 89th.

Concordia held the edge in shots, 8-5, but Schreiner’s lone shot on goal all match was Smith’s — and it counted. Concordia goalkeeper Leonel Cuellar was beaten by the only shot he faced. Schreiner’s Mason Miller made two saves on three shots on goal.

The tie moves Concordia (Texas) to 2-2-1 on the season and Schreiner to 1-3-1. It was also the first game this season to affect either team’s conference record, based on the box score’s separate conference win-loss-tie tracking, which moved to 0-0-1 for both.
