Kerrville to begin curbside flood debris collection Monday
The city of Kerrville Public Works Department will begin phased curbside debris collection Monday, Aug. 24, following weeks of surveying property owners and conducting site visits to map out collection routes.
Crews will start in west Kerrville and move eastward through identified areas. Once a street has been cleared during this initial sweep, crews will not return to it.
Public Works is asking residents to place only items damaged by the recent floods in the right of way, saying that limiting debris to flood-damaged materials will help crews move through routes more efficiently.

What’s being collected
During the initial sweep, crews will collect flood-damaged household items, furniture and construction debris placed in the right of way, along with other eligible flood-damaged household materials.
Brush, vegetative material and metal debris will be addressed in a later phase. Public Works is coordinating with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to secure a site where brush and vegetative debris can be processed, and the city said it’s working to get that approval expedited.
The following items should not be placed in the right of way:
- Tires
- Household hazardous waste, including paint, pesticides, fuel and oil
- Appliances that previously held Freon or other refrigerants
- Chemicals or other materials classified as hazardous waste
Work already underway
Before the curbside effort begins, more than 30 tons of debris has already been removed through dumpsters placed around the city, along with debris cleared with help from volunteers and community organizations.
“Given the extent and widespread nature of the debris, this has been a challenging effort,” Public Works Director David Barrera said. “I’m glad we were able to utilize the resources available to assist residents while our crews continued responding to critical operations throughout the department.”
