Pookie’s adds a sweet flair to downtown Kerrville with delectable treats
It was the dream of two sisters, with the help of their mom and dad, and now Pookie’s adds something special to downtown.
Pookie’s Patisserie made its grand debut yesterday, just in time for the Valentine’s Day crowds to take advantage of the array of sweet treats and picturesque atmosphere. With its delightful fusion of vintage European charm and modern romantic aesthetics, Pookie’s brings a touch of whimsy to downtown Kerrville along with crafted coffee drinks and a colorful selection of gelato, macaroons, chocolate truffles, and pastries.
Pookie’s namesake, also known as the 10-year-old Livia Fore, along with her 7-year-old sister, Vivian Fore, were on hand Friday to welcome the day’s steady stream of customers excited to explore the shop and enjoy a cone, coffee, or other treat.
Parents Micah and Laura Fore, owners of Fore Premier Properties, also spent much of the day in the shop, enjoying the excitement of opening day. Laura Fore has been developing the property for months, bringing to life the vision Livia has had since she was a little girl.
Livia has been drawing plans for her own treat shop for years, Micah said. Initially, the idea was to sell gelato from a cart at Laura’s office. But the downtown property opened up, the idea grew wings, and the rest is history.
“I really like serving the community, and I like helping my parents,” Livia said, explaining the reason she has long wanted a shop like Pookie’s.
When asked to name her favorite things in the shop, “the Vespa,” was Livia’s lightning-fast response, followed by “the espresso machine” as a close second. The items are likely favored by visitors as well, both serving as eye-catching statement pieces that give an artful nod to Italian cafe culture.
Among the treats, macarons are Livia’s favorite, both for their look and taste, and she and Vivian agree that mango is the best of the gelato flavors, at least among those they’ve tried so far.
Both girls plan to work at Pookie’s as they get older. “It’s a summer job,” Livia said, adding that she and Vivian work well together.
