Weekend guide: Live music, farmers markets and a rodeo fill Kerr County calendar

The day opens with Spring Forest Qigong at the Center for Fitness at 9:30 a.m., led by certified practice group leader Nanette Newbern, with donations benefiting local nonprofits.

Game-minded residents have three options: cornhole at Dietert Center from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., senior lunch and bingo at Doyle Community Center at noon, and game night back at Doyle at 7 p.m.

At Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library, licensed clinical social worker Kathy Turner leads a resilience workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon as part of the Connections series, exploring self-awareness through spirituality, relationships and wellness. The session is open to ages 18 and up, and attendees are welcome to bring a pillow or blanket. Registration is required through the library’s online calendar.

Live music picks up in the evening with Lee Winright at Turtle Creek Vineyard (5:30 p.m.), Carlos Cuellar at Cafe at the Ridge (5:30 p.m.) and The Flashbacks at Truffles & Vines (7 p.m.). Karaoke runs at Gravity Check Saloon at 7 p.m., while Ruben & Friends play the Elm Waterhole Saloon at the YO Hotel at the same hour. The Q-Tips take the stage at Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree at 8 p.m., and Chris Knight headlines The Arcadia Live at 8 p.m.

Crafters can catch a Mystery Cactus Paint & Sip at The Color of Clay at 7 p.m.

Saturday

The Kerrville Walking Group meets at 7:30 a.m. for a 2- to 4-mile nature walk; check the group’s website for the meeting location.

The San Antonio Food Bank holds its monthly distribution at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Jefferson St., from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. — a recurring third-Saturday event.

Shoppers have two farmers market options starting at 9 a.m.: the Hill Country Heritage Farmers Market at 301 Junction Hwy and the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market at the 741 Water St. parking lot, both running until 1 p.m. Kerr Kids hosts a Day of Play at the Hill Country Youth Event Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Art lovers can join a drop-in life drawing session at Hill Country Atelier from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (no instruction, $15, no registration needed), or sign up for a beginner weaving class making a mini wall hanging at The Rogue Skein, offered at 9:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. The National Museum of the Pacific War continues its Outpost Series with “In the Service of the Emperor” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library hosts adult yoga with Humbling Bloom from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Music venues are booked solid Saturday night: Hunter Billingsley at Turtle Creek Vineyard (2:30 p.m.), Kay O’Neill at Cafe at the Ridge (5:30 p.m.), Alora Joy at Pint & Plow Brewing Co. (6 p.m.), a Billy Joel tribute act — Big Shot — at Singing Water Vineyards (6:30 p.m.), Simon Flory at Trailhead Beer Garden (7 p.m.), karaoke again at Gravity Check Saloon (7 p.m.), Lone Star 118 at Tailchasers Patio + Pub (7 p.m.), The Nite Owls at the Elm Waterhole Saloon (7 p.m.), Fire & Honey at Lazy Days Canteen (8 p.m.) and Radio Echo at The Inn Pub (8 p.m.).

The night caps off with Crider’s Rodeo and Dance, running 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cafe opens at 6:30 p.m., the rodeo starts at 8 p.m., and Chase Montague plays as the dance kicks off at 9 p.m.

Sunday

The weekend winds down with brunch: Bark & Brunch at Cafe at the Ridge starts at 9 a.m., and the Junior Pruneda Open Jam Brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree.

Afternoon live music includes Bob Stewart at Gravity Check Saloon (1 p.m.), Chris Lirette at Turtle Creek Vineyard (2:30 p.m.) and Trick Meyers at Tailchasers Patio + Pub (3 p.m.).

The Cailloux Theater closes out the weekend with a free preview party for its 2026/27 season launch at 3 p.m., open to the public.

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
