Anita Vargas: Aug. 28, 1925-July 13, 2026

Graveside services for Anita Vargas, 100, of Kerrville, who passed away Monday, July 13, 2026, at her residence, will be held at 9 AM, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Garden of Memories Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 10 AM, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held 10 AM-7:30 PM, Monday, July 20, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

She is survived by son, Paul (Elaine); daughter, Susie; grandson, Jason Harmon (Krendi); great-grandsons, Ian Harmon (Emily) and Beck Harmon; great-granddaughter, Hailey Maynard (Aaron); great-great-granddaughter, Magnolia Joy Maynard; many nieces and nephews; and her special furr baby, Ella Blue.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Growing up in Southern California, Louis Amestoy remained connected to Texas as the birthplace of his father and grandfather. Texas was always a presence in the family’s life. Amestoy’s great-grandparents settled in San Antonio, Texas, drawn by the city’s connections to Mexico and the region’s German communities. In 2019, Louis Amestoy saw an opportunity to make a home in Texas. After 30 years of working for corporate media chains, Louis Amestoy saw a chance to establish an independent voice in the Texas Hill Country. He launched The Lead to be that vehicle. With investment from Meta, Amestoy began independently publishing on Aug. 9, 2021. The Amestoys have called Kerrville home since 2019.
