Former USAA chief actuary to speak at Schreiner’s Labatt lecture

The lecture will be in the Schreiner University Ballrooms on the second floor of the Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

David Cummings, the former chief actuary at USAA, will be the featured speaker for Schreiner University’s Weir and Nell Labatt Distinguished Lecture Series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The lecture will be in the Schreiner University Ballrooms on the second floor of the Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

Cummings has decades of experience in insurance, actuarial science, analytics and risk management. As senior vice president and chief actuary at USAA, he led the company’s property and casualty actuarial and analytics group. He worked on combining actuarial science and data analysis to improve the company’s predictive analytics.

Before USAA, Cummings was senior vice president of insurance operations and analytics at the Insurance Services Office. There he oversaw personal lines insurance programs and developed new analytics products. Earlier in his career, he was director of enterprise risk management for State Farm.

The lecture series brings accomplished leaders to campus to share their experience with students and the Hill Country community.
