The victory helped the Mountaineers snap a two-game losing streak against the Cowboys, who swept Schreiner last season.

Schreiner’s depth proved crucial, with the Mountaineers’ bench outscoring Hardin-Simmons 26-7. First-year reserve guard Charley Reado connected on four first-half 3-pointers to help the Mountaineers overcome the Cowboys.

It was Reado who helped the Mountaineers grab the lead with a pair of 3-pointers to give Schreiner a 21-17 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half. The Mountaineers would not give up that lead. In his first two games, Reado has scored 23 points, shooting 6-of-10 from 3-point range in 24 minutes of play.

The Mountaineers hit the road next week to Southern California for games Friday at the University of Redlands and Occidental College. This is Schreiner’s first trip to California in more than a decade. The Mountaineers will make a trip to Oregon next month. The Mountaineers don’t return home until Dec. 18, when they host Whitworth College of Spokane, Wash.
