Bill pursued education and training as a radiology technician at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. He later specialized as a cardiac catheterization technician and worked at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City until his retirement in 2001.

At the age of 17, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. As a result of promotions over the years, he was accepted to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy and was a graduate of Class 30 (1988.). It was while he was at the USASMA that some of his classmates gave him the nickname “Bubba” due to his accent. The nickname stuck. He proudly served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 44th Evacuation Hospital, during which time the hospital was deployed to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He also served as Command Sergeant Major to several other Army Reserve units before retiring in 2004.

An unexpected benefit of deployment to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Desert Storm occurred when 1LT Janan Angevine accepted his proposal of marriage in the middle of the Saudi Desert.

Following their marriage, they lived in Edmond, OK for 11 years before fulfilling a dream of moving to the Texas Hill Country. They enjoyed life, work, and friendships in Boerne, TX for 13 years prior to moving to Kerrville in 2015.

To stay out of trouble after retirement from full-time employment, Bubba worked a little here and there and also enjoyed serving at the churches he attended, as well as volunteering at Christian Assistance Ministry in Kerrville. His hobbies included reading, working out, going to Apache Rifleworks to hone his firearm skills, and traveling to Oklahoma and beyond to visit family and friends and explore new places.

Bubba loved God, his family, the United States of America, and John Wayne. He loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. He did a pretty good impersonation of Forrest Gump, too.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Jimmy Gerlach and wife; cousins, Wayne and Melinda Gerlach; and grandparents, “Duckie” and “Daddy Boots” Gerlach.

Bubba is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janan. He is also survived by son, Daniel (Samantha) of Harrah, OK; daughter, Stephanie Hudson (Michael) of Davis, OK; grandchildren, Hali Armstrong (Shawn), Cort Hudson, Riley Hudson, and Duncan Hall (Shelly), all of Davis, OK. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Holden Armstrong, Bostyn Armstrong, Olivia Hall, and Milo Hall of Davis, OK. Surviving cousins include Noel Clifton, Vicky Clifton, and Shirley Casida.

The family will always be grateful for the following individuals and organizations who provided love and care over the past several months: Carolyn W. April, MD; Peterson Hospice (Sarah, Cassie, Teresa, Alex, Jamie, Alicia, Dr. Young and numerous others); and, Debrah Jackson.

A Celebration of Life for Bubba Hall will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Kerrville Global Methodist Church, with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the following: Fisher House Foundation (P.O. Box 791598, Baltimore, MD 21298-7954 or online); Kerrville Global Methodist Church (P.O. Box 293787, Kerrville, TX 78029); Peterson Hospice (250 Cully Drive, Kerrville, TX 78028); or Kerr County Area Christian Assistance Ministry (P.O. Box 291352, Kerrville, TX 78029).
