Dominating night by Ross leads Schreiner past Texas Lutheran

The Mountaineers rout Texas Lutheran behind Ross’s 24 points and 21 rebounds.

If Schreiner University third-year standout Kamden Ross is hot, there’s almost no stopping him. On Friday night, Ross led the Mountaineers to an impressive 90-76 win over Texas Lutheran in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Ross’s performance may have been the best of the season. He scored 24 points, accentuated by a first-half alley-oop jam off an assist from Beau Cervantes, and the star from San Antonio grabbed 21 rebounds. Ross has scored in double figures in every conference game this season, and he’s had three consecutive double-doubles (points-rebounds). Ross now averages 17 points and 13 rebounds per game.

Accustomed to close games, Schreiner hadn’t beaten a team by double digits since a 20-point win on Nov. 27 at Sul Ross State.

The Mountaineers held a 42-33 lead, and Schreiner would answer whenever the Bulldogs clawed closer. Cervantes added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Christian Caldwell scored 13. Coming of the bench, Cristian Rodriguez added 13.

The Mountaineers are now 11-7 overall and 6-3 in the SCAC. Schreiner hosts Southwestern at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
