Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the area, with up to 2 inches already fallen. Rain could fall at 1 to 4 inches an hour, and 2 to 5 more inches are possible, forecasters said. Flash flooding is happening now or expected to begin shortly.

The warning also covers Real County, western Bandera County, western Gillespie County and southeastern Edwards County.

Places expected to flood include Kerrville, Ingram, Hunt, Mountain Home, Kerrville-Schreiner Park, the Kerr Wildlife Management Area, Camp Verde, Harper, Medina, Vanderpool, Leakey, Camp Wood and Lost Maples State Natural Area.

The NWS warned of life-threatening flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

What to do now

Do not drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
Know where you are relative to creeks, streams and the river. They can rise very quickly in heavy rain.
Stay away from creeks and streams if you’re camping or hiking.
Avoid travel if you can until the warning expires at 2 p.m.

A Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.
