Schreiner University outfielder Danielle Pedraza turned in an epic performance on Friday night with eight runs batted in to lead the Mountaineers to an 18-10 rout of visiting Austin College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
The Mountaineers pounded out 20 hits, and Pedraza hit three doubles and a home run. Pedraza was six-for-six at the plate, with three runs scored and is now hitting .453 on the season. The senior from San Antonio now has six home runs on the season and has an .862 slugging average.
Austin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Mountaineers answered in the bottom of the first when Pedraza smacked a two-run double. Hannah Kollmansberger doubled to score Pedraza and later scored on a Yadira Lopez single. Lopez had a big offensive game by going 3-for-5, with four RBI.
In the second inning, Pedraza hit a two-run home run to boost the Mountaineers to a 6-3 lead. Schreiner added six more runs in the next two innings to take a 12-3 lead, but they almost gave it all back. Austin College scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
