Schreiner men earn crucial road victory at Centenary, 84-78
Schreiner’s big men dominate on the road against third-place Centenary.
Schreiner University men’s basketball team went big on Friday night and received a clutch second-half performance from Jalen Ned to pick up a crucial 84-78 victory at Centenary University in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The victory stopped Schreiner’s four-game losing streak and may have secured the Mountaineers a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament next week back in Shreveport.
Schreiner is now 8-7 in the SCAC and one game behind Centenary for third place. The Mountaineers hold a one-game advantage over fifth-place Colorado College.
Schreiner’s big men, Kamden Ross and Cristian Rodriguez, combined to score 42 points and grab 28 rebounds, and the duo shot 66% from the field. The pair matched Centenary’s total rebounding effort on Friday night.
Rodriguez scored 22 points, while Ross added 20. However, it was Ned’s play in the second half that sparked the Mountaineers. Held scoreless in the first half, Ned erupted in the second half for 13 points. Ned’s ability to attack the basket helped him convert six free throws. The Mountaineers got 10 points from guard Beau Cervantes.
The Mountaineers return to action at noon on Sunday against St. Thomas, currently second in the SCAC.
