Rose Ella Guzik, 85, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2026. She was born on January 19, 1941, in Pasadena, Texas, to Jesse and Corda Hannon.
Rose grew up in Pasadena, where she attended and graduated from high school. Following graduation, she spent some time working alongside her father at Houston Lighting and Power before discovering what would become one of her greatest talents: computer programming. Long before computers became a part of everyday life, Rose had already developed an extraordinary understanding of them. Entirely self-taught, she possessed a remarkable ability to read and understand computer code. Her natural intelligence, curiosity, and exceptional aptitude for technology allowed her to excel in a field that was still in its early years.
It was through her career in computer programming that Rose met the love of her life, Larry Guzik. The two worked at the same company’s home office, with Larry in the accounting department and Rose in computer programming. Their friendship quickly blossomed into something more. Following a company baseball game, Larry came up with the perfect excuse to spend a little extra time with Rose, asking if he could come over to her place to listen to music. From that evening forward, the two were inseparable.
When Rose first brought Larry home to meet her mother, Corda had just one request of him: if he could trim a few tree limbs in her backyard, he would have her approval. Larry apparently passed the test, and fittingly, that very backyard became the setting where Rose and Larry exchanged their wedding vows in 1980. It was the beginning of a beautiful marriage filled with love, friendship, and a lifetime of memories.
Later in life, Rose and Larry made their home in Kerrville, Texas, where they became members of Friendship Bible Church.
Outside of her remarkable career, Rose had a creative side and especially enjoyed making jewelry. Her handmade pieces became quite popular, and she even tried her hand at selling them. However, she soon discovered that turning her hobby into a business took away some of the joy. For Rose, making jewelry was never about making money; it was simply about the happiness she found in creating something with her own hands. Whether working with intricate computer code or crafting a beautiful piece of jewelry, Rose had a special gift for understanding how things came together.
Rose will be remembered for her brilliant mind, her creativity, her independent spirit, and the beautiful love story she shared with Larry. She lived a life marked by curiosity, talent, and a love for the things and people that brought her happiness.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Guzik.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Corda Hannon; and her older brother, Thomas Hannon.
